If you鈥檙e a current Year 12 student applying to UC for undergraduate study next year, you could receive an alternative early admission offer under the Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) using criteria other than your ATAR.

If you鈥檙e a current Year 12 student, your school can recommend you for admission to the University of Canberra in advance of receiving your ATAR results, based on your abilities and success to date. Like your main application to UC, Schools Recommendation Scheme applications are also made through .

If you apply for the SRS, your school鈥檚 rating of your aptitudes will be considered, including your capacity for tertiary study. Applying through the SRS doesn鈥檛 guarantee you an offer to the University of Canberra, as course quotas and other criteria still need to be considered.

If successful, you鈥檒l receive an early offer to UC for your chosen course in November.

To apply for an early offer using the Schools Recommendation Scheme via UAC you must be:

  • completing an Australian Year 12 program or the International Baccalaureate (IB) in Australia in the year you submit your application
  • an Australian citizen, Australian permanent resident, New Zealand citizen, or a holder of an Australian permanent humanitarian visa.

Are all UC courses available?

Most 黑料网 undergraduate courses are eligible as part of the SRS, but there are a few that don鈥檛 release early offers. Make sure you check our list of SRS-eligible course before applying.

How do I apply?

To apply for the SRS, the first step is to speak with your school careers adviser to find out how your school is managing SRS applications. Each school can choose how they want to use SRS so it鈥檚 important you find out about your school鈥檚 process, selection criteria and timelines before you start.

Once you have familiarised yourself with your school鈥檚 SRS application process, submit your university application through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC). You鈥檒l then be able to use your UAC application number to start your SRS application.

gives you detailed instructions on exactly how to apply, what sort of documents you may need and key dates for the UAC part of your SRS application. Your school may provide extra instructions and additional key dates that you also need to meet to be considered for SRS.

When to apply

SRS applications for 2025 are now open with applications closing 16 September.

The first SRS offers are released on 8 November 2024 to eligible students who have UC as their highest eligible preference.

After you apply

Once you鈥檝e submitted your SRS application, your school will be asked to provide ratings based on your aptitude in different areas and your capacity for study in specific subjects.

After UAC has received your university preferences, your SRS application and all required documentation from you and your school, this information is passed on to the University of Canberra and we鈥檒l assess your application as a whole.

If you鈥檙e an international student currently completing an Australian Year 12 certificate, the International Baccalaureate (IB) in Australia or the New Zealand NCEA Level 3, you can be considered for the Schools Recommendation Scheme.

After applying for university admission through UAC, you鈥檒l need to contact the 黑料网 Admissions Office directly and provide us with a letter from your school principal (or delegate) endorsing your aptitude and capacity for tertiary study. You don鈥檛 need to apply for the SRS through UAC. 

Can I apply for SRS via Big Picture Education Australia?

If you鈥檙e currently studying through Big Picture Education Australia, you鈥檙e eligible for the Schools Recommendation Scheme.

After applying through UAC for a university place, you or your school should contact the 黑料网 Admissions Office directly and provide us with a letter of endorsement from your school principal or delegate, a copy of your high school academic records and a Big Picture National Standards document.

If you don鈥檛 receive an early offer for the UC course you鈥檙e hoping to start next year, you鈥檒l still be considered for entry based on your ATAR. Once ATARs are released, all course applications are assessed and course offers are sent out in late December.

If you鈥檙e successful, you can defer your SRS offer for either six months or one year, depending on your鈥�course availability.
