This is an introductory unit exploring the theory and practice of people management. The aim of this unit is to introduce students to the importance and complexity of effective people management in a variety of different organisational contexts. Students will undertake practice-related project tasks that involve the application of research and practical skills in selected areas of human resource practice in an organisational context that they select.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Explain the core theories and concepts of human capital management and human resource management (HRM) including developments in these fields of study;
2. Identify the dimensions of the competencies and core knowledge of an HR professional, and determine relevance to the student's professional life upon the learning and development;
3. Apply industry research regarding one or more areas of traditional and contemporary HRM practice to the selected organisational context; and
4. Communicate clearly the results of research and analysis of HRM practice regarding the practice-related projects within the selected organisational context.
