This is a project-based unit. Building upon the capabilities and skills of research methods that they have already developed, the students sharpen them and apply them to undertaking a research project. Each student prepares a research proposal that is relevant to their disciplinary areas and/or to their personal interests, and then implement the project and complete a final research report. This holistic research process includes research design, data collection, analysis, interpretation, communication, and project management. It provides an experiential opportunity to prepare the students to become the type of knowledge workers who can solve real world problems through conducting independent and rigorous research.

On successful completion of this unit, students will be able to:
1. Have the capabilities and skills of preparing a research proposal;
2. Undertake a research project with appropriate research methods, competent research skills and project management; and
3. Complete a professional research report.

Skills development

Research and evaluation are important work-related skills, as is being an effective reflective lifelong learner. This unit provides you with the opportunity to implement your research plans and reflect upon your design. By supporting your fellow students, you will also develop your skills in listening and giving feedback that helps others achieve as well, thus creating your own community of practice.
