If you鈥檙e a Year 12 student and feel you haven鈥檛 been able to reach your full academic potential because of significant educational disadvantage in your final years of school, you can apply under the Educational Access Scheme (EAS).

If you鈥檙e applying to the University of Canberra, the EAS can help you receive an offer for a UC course preference even if your Australian Tertiary Admissions Rank (ATAR) is not high enough to gain entry to your preferred course.

When you submit an EAS application, your situation will be taken into consideration and an adjustment of up to 10 points may be added to your selection rank. Your selection rank is your ATAR, plus any adjustment points you鈥檙e eligible for. Adjustment factors or points don鈥檛 alter your ATAR but can change your selection rank.

UC will then use your selection rank to assess your applications for any UC courses you鈥檝e applied for.

To apply for the Educational Access Scheme, you must have experienced circumstances beyond your control that have caused a significant disadvantage, seriously affecting your Year 11 or Year 12 studies for at least six months.

The broad EAS categories are:

  • disrupted schooling
  • financial hardship
  • severe family disruption
  • excessive family responsibilities
  • English language difficulty
  • personal illness/disability
  • refugee status
  • school environment
  • socio-economic indexes for areas (SEIFA).

The University Admissions Centre (UAC) centrally manages the and you should review all EAS information carefully, particularly the and the supporting documents you鈥檒l need to submit in order for your application to be eligible.

You can apply for EAS if you鈥檙e:

  • an Australian or New Zealand citizen or an Australian Permanent Resident (including Australian Permanent Humanitarian Visa holders)
  • applying for undergraduate admission in the following year through UAC.

International students aren鈥檛 eligible to apply for EAS through UAC.

EAS applications are centrally processed through UAC.

To apply, follow the steps below.

  1. Submit your university applications (course preferences) through UAC.
  2. Select 鈥楢pply for EAS鈥� at the bottom of the undergraduate application page or log into your completed undergraduate application and select 鈥楨AS鈥�.
  3. Open the category of educational disadvantage relevant to your situation and select the specific disadvantages that apply to you. Once you鈥檝e selected the applicable disadvantages, select 鈥楽ave鈥�.
  4. Agree to the Declaration and Authority and submit your EAS application.
  5. Download your Confirmation of Application and a cover sheet for each category of educational disadvantage you claimed. The cover sheet details the eligibility criteria for that category and any supporting documents you need to provide.
  6. Ensure you submit all required documentation with your application by the key dates provided by UAC.

It鈥檚 worth noting that you can only submit one EAS application in each admissions period.

Not everyone is eligible under the EAS. In some circumstances there may be other adjustment factors you might be eligible for which can improve your chances of receiving an offer for your preferred UC course.
