Are you ready to start calling Canberra home?
Before you begin this adventure of a lifetime, you will want to ensure you’re as prepared as possible. In this guide, we break down the most important pre-arrival information for international students coming to Canberra, including what to expect upon arrival.
From coordinating your visa to packing your suitcase, here is everything you need to start your journey on the right foot.
Before leaving your home country, here are a few crucial steps you’ll need to follow.
To travel to Australia, your passport must be valid for at least six months from the date of arrival. Double-check your passport’s expiry date to ensure it meets this requirement and, if it doesn’t, look into getting a renewal before you depart.
You will need a valid visa to enter Australia; in most cases, international students will require a Student (subclass 500) visa. Make sure you apply well before your planned departure date. We also recommend keeping a copy of your visa documentation, including your University of Canberra (UC) Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE), with you when you travel.
Once you have your student visa, you can organise your flights. Many airlines fly in and out of Australia from all over the world, every single day. Some of these include:
When flying to Canberra, you may need to make a connecting flight in a larger Australian city, such as Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne. Keep a copy of your itinerary and tickets with you when travelling. It’s also a good idea to stay up to date on .
