Physiological lab testing
Test packages
Laboratory testing provides information regarding the fundamental physiological processes that underpin sport performance. At ºÚÁÏÍøRISE, we have a range of laboratory-based testing packages designed to meet the needs and requirements of a broad range and standard of athlete.
In our basic testing package a trained exercise and sport scientist will assess heart rate and power output or speed during an incremental exercise test to exhaustion on a treadmill, cycling ergometer or rowing ergometer. This test starts at low exercise intensity before steadily increasing until volitional exhaustion. At the end of this test clients will be provided with their maximum heart rate and heart rate dictated training zones, as well as a measure of maximal aerobic power or speed, which is highly predictive of middle to long distance endurance exercise performance.
Our ³Õ°¿â‚‚m²¹³æ testing package builds on our basic testing package by including gas analysis. By measuring expired gases we are able to determine ³Õ°¿â‚‚m²¹³æ, ventilatory threshold (an alternative to lactate threshold) and exercise economy (the amount of oxygen required to sustain a given exercise intensity) in addition to all measures provided by the basic test package.
Our lactate threshold package builds further on the ³Õ°¿â‚‚m²¹³æ testing package by including a full profile of the blood lactate response to exercise. Using the incremental protocol or the new, two stage testing protocol, blood lactate will be measured by a trained sport scientist at the end of each stage of the test. From this test clients will be provided with a blood lactate profile and suggested training zones based on the blood lactate response to exercise.
The cycling power profile is a test of cycling power output over seven specific durations from six seconds to ten minutes. Results from this test can be used to model critical power and anaerobic work capacity, as well as identify targets for training. Additionally, ³Õ°¿â‚‚m²¹³æ can be established during the four minute stage of the power profile to provide a comprehensive analysis of physiology and performance capability.
The ultimate cycling package combines our lactate threshold and cycling power profile packages to provide our most comprehensive analysis of cycling related physiological and performance characteristics.
